April Recap 2026

Out of all the books I read for April, I think Shoe Dog was probably my favorite one to read! It was interesting to hear the story of how Nike came to be. Anyways, I was able to get through all the books I had planned for the month of April. Here’s my thoughts on those books.

  1. Closer to Christ by Emily Belle Freeman- I enjoyed reading this book because it is focused on Christ and was great to read around Easter. She has some great ideas on how you can become closer to Christ through her 21 Day Challenge. She also includes the scripture story that she refers to for each day so that you can follow along with the text from there as well. I think most people would enjoy this book if they love Christ and want to be connected to Him!

  2. Daring Greatly by Brené Brown- I finished off the month reading this one and it talks a lot about vulnerability. I’m still trying to decide if I want to do a full review on this one so if you’re interested in that let me know. One of the main points I liked from the book was when she said, “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage”. I like this because it goes along with concepts that are of value and that we want to have in our lives. Another key point she makes is to “dare greatly” by only posting comments online with your actual name. This creates more focus on truth and less on things we wouldn’t say if we were in person.

  3. the light we lost by Jill Santopolo- This book I wouldn’t even really recommend reading. It had some things in it that just wasn’t for me and I almost didn’t finish it anyway. If you’re interested, just read the reviews before you get into it.

  4. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight- This was such a great story! While it is a memoir, I would definitely recommend picking up this book if you haven’t yet. It is very interesting to me how he made his way through designing new shoes, beating the odds, and just overall creating a business that no one had really seen before.

  5. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir- I went in thinking I wasn’t really going to enjoy the type of book, but I loved this one! I did watch the movie before reading so it was a little bit of a spoiler for me, but I enjoyed listening to it as well because he really goes into detail with how he makes discoveries in space. It also shows how he had to make a life decision by going into space not knowing what he would learn while he was there. I would recommend this one if you are considering it!

  6. The Secrets of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler- This was a really quick book to listen to! It wasn’t my favorite, but it did have some good points mostly revolving around improving relationships as well as how to manage different aspects of life whether that be in business, sports, or the military.

  7. I also listened to Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica- This one didn’t really stick out to me. I hadn’t really planned on it for last month, but was able to squeeze it in and the writing was interesting. There was a lot of dialogue, which was good since I listened to it. This helped create more interaction with the plot. It was kind of a dark story though so I would be aware of that if you are considering reading this story.

Overall, I did not hit my page goal of 3,000 pages for April, however, I was able to successfully finish all these books so I’d say that’s a win! If you want more details about any of these books, shoot me a message either here or in person and I’d be happy to answer. I mostly don’t like spoiling the main points of the books by adding too much detail, so it gives others the chance to really discover it themselves. However, if you have a question, I’ll try my best to answer :)
