July Reading

Half of the year is already over and I need to catch up with the number of pages I read each month so I can still hit 25,000 pages! Hopefully I can make it! Here’s some of the books I’ve considering reading this month and the details that I know about them before reading the whole thing.

  1. How to Read A Book by Monica Wood- This book was intriguing to me because of the cover. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I think I will like this book. The story surrounds 3 individuals who are involved with books/book club in some way. There is also a character who served time in prison, another who runs a book club for prisoners, and the other hasn’t come to terms with his marriage after his wife was killed, I believe. This seems like a unique story that I haven’t read before so I’m excited to see how it turns out! I’ve heard of other people reading this book, however, I do not know much about it myself other than what I mentioned above.

  2. Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell- Ellie disappears and her mom, Laurel, trys to put her life back together afterwards. Laurel meets a man whose daughter seems just like Ellie, her daughter. The main part of the book is finding where Ellie went and facing the clues that are waiting to be discovered. Overall, this seems engaging so I am trying to see what I can learn from this author. Do you like books involving missing people? Sometimes I do and other times it is a little frightening!

  3. Anxiety Happens by John P. Forsyth & Georg H. Eifert- This self-help book talks about how anxiety can take over your life if you let it and contains mindfulness strategies to get rid of anxiety. They also talk about how your values can help overcome these thoughts that can be overwhelming. This might just be a typical self-help book, but I am looking forward to seeing what I can learn about calming my own emotions of anxiety in my everyday life.

  4. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey- I feel like I should know something about this book, but I honestly don’t really know anything so I’m kind of going in blind on this one. From what I have looked up, it’s a dystopian, science fiction genre. The story involves aliens and is post apocalyptic. If you liked the plot of Divergent or Hunger Games, you probably would enjoy this book, I think. We’ll see how it lines up in ranking with those stories after I read it!

  5. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan- This book I also know nothing about as of right now. Have you read this book? If so, what were your thoughts on it? The story involves mythical creatures and stolen property of Zeus. In order to clear his own name, Percy has to find the true thief. The book is set in Mount Olympus were Percy is trying to bring back peace. We’ll see if he successfully does those things!

  6. Gracie’s Guide to Dating by Rebecca Jo Jackson- This is the last book of the Sweet River series as of right now. This book just came out and tells the story between Gracie and Nathan. Gracie is teaching dance and Nathan’s niece takes lessons from Gracie. We’ll see if they end up together in the story.

  7. Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty- I initially heard about this book through the blog, Everyday Reading, so I have hopes that this one will be good. The genre is a mystery and isn’t true. The passengers on a flight learn when and how they will die in the future. Sounds kind of creepy, but brings up some life-altering questions and plans. I’m excited to find out who the people were that were on the plane and what each of their fates hold. How or when do you think they will die? Let me know in the comments and I will find out if you were right this month!

At the end of the month, I hope that I will find some more 5 star stories because I feel like I haven’t read many this year, but maybe I’m wrong on that one. What book have you read recently that you rated 5 stars?
