168 Hours Review
Book Written by Laura Vanderkam
My Thoughts:
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book about how we have more time than we think. I was able to really think about ways I spend my time and what I could do to change the time that was once wasted before. In Laura Vanderkam's book, she says, "people in a good mood are more likely to try new things". Since I have read this book, I have been able to analyze my own moods and think about starting new; new thoughts, new activities, new work, new socializing habits and many other new things.
Another thing I have learned from Vanderkam is how we can control our calendar. With this, she talks about the importance of not mistaking think that look like work for actual work. She talks about the importance of outsourcing tasks that just do not fall in line with some of our biggest priorities. She incorporates gratitude by encouraging us to take a few minutes every week to be thankful. Also she emphasizes that boosting efficiency is possible by "getting better at what you do". From this, I learned that I can be better at "what I do". I can live my life intentionally and meaningfully.
While reading 168 Hours, I have analyzed what I can do; what I can do in 30 minutes or less and what I can do in 10 minutes or less.
In 30 minutes, I can:
Call someone for fun.
Become an early riser.
Engage with someone on a blog or instagram post.
Take a nap.
Start reading a new book.
Make a new playlist.
Go outside.
Declutter.
Listen to an audiobook or podcast.
Meditate.
In 10 minutes or less, I can:
Write in my journal.
Floss.
Plan the day.
Call and schedule an appointment.
Fold laundry.
Update my browser's bookmark bar with things I'll actually use.
Set my email inbox to zero.
Go for a power walk.
Reconnect with someone on LinkedIn.
Revise booklist.
Maybe your list will look a little different than mine, but the thought and intention is still there. I think we all have more time than we think. There is still so much we can do.
I recommend this book if you:
Want to change up your routines
Need to manage time more efficiently
Have too much to do
Have a lot of goals to accomplish in a certain amount of time
Anyway, I highly recommend reading this book. It will change your perspective about time management. I really enjoyed this book and I think you will too!
